The Plunging Hons Prepare for Plungapalooza ‘09

What could be better than a fabulous group of Baltimore “Hons?” Why a group of fabulous Plunging Hons, of course!

This enthusiastic team first Plunged in 2008 thanks to the prodding of one of the members of The Hons, a co-ed football team that competes in a touch-football league. Greg organized the team in the interest of charity, but his fellow teammates knew better – he just loves swimming around in ice!

Seeing an opportunity, Kate – another member of the team – approached Denise Whiting at Café Hon about hosting a fundraiser in the Hon Bar and reaching beyond the members of the football team and further into Hamden and the surrounding area.

The rest – as they say – is history!

The Hons have the added benefit of some star-power on their team, thanks to the support of Hedi and Rita Moore, a mother-daughter team and 2004 and 2005 winners of the Miss Hon Contest during HonFest. As the face of “The Plunging Hons” they have hon-tastic influence, and have drummed up great support around the community.

In 2005, a group of Baltimore friends formed a football team to compete in a coed touch-football league. Needing a name, the team took inspiration from a team member who worked at the Hon Bar in Hampden. They endearingly chose "The Hons" as their new identity. The Hons have played together since 2005, through winning and losing seasons, and always in the spirit of friendship and fun.

The collective goal of the group is to contribute individually and wholeheartedly to SOMD, each for his or her own reason. The Plunging Hons see the opportunity to participate in this event as evidence that the community is able to accomplish true greatness when it works as a team.

This year, The Plunging Hons are hosting a fundraiser on January 11, 2009 beginning at 5PM in The Hon Bar on 36th Street in Hampden. In addition to last year's team, Elliana Fetsko, Miss Hon 2007, will be taking the Plunge this year! The public is welcome to attend.
